So it’s been a long and sometimes frustrating week of ups and downs for many of us. I think we need to get back to our basic humanity. I am challenging all of you to walk the talk this weekend, just two short days. High five a kid in the grocery store, buy the next person in line coffee, hold the door for someone and SMILE at your fellow humans. Just be kind… To EVERYBODY… For no other reason than that Kindness is SO Gangster.
There are a lot of ways to make someone feel loved. Over the years, I have received some pretty nice notes. Sometimes they were from a friend, sometimes from a stranger and sometimes from a family member. Either way I stop to read the note and thing about the time it took the author.
This weeks series was about trying something new for 30 days. Writing notes is something we should do for a lifetime, not just 30 days. I am starting to send notes…what!…in the mail???? I bought a stack of cheap, small blank notes from the dollar store. I actually even bought some stamps. I had made a habit of leaving notes in my daughters lunch box and I vow to start again.
I don’t want to be someone who forgets to recognize an achievement or forgets to say thank you. On another note, saying thank you in writing can sometimes be good for someone at work. If you receive service above and beyond from a Police, Fire, EMS or Public Works you can jot a note to their Chief or Director…these go in their “permanent record”.
Thank you…in advance…from all your friends and family.
Okay..wait…what are those ↑↑↑↑? Those are furniture sliders available at Menard’s (plug for my daughters employer). They are a low cost (under $10) tool to make you watch the commercials. I have a point here…I really do…my point is that in 2013 the average TV hour contained 14 minutes and 15 seconds of commercials. When you translate that into quick workouts that’s a good amount of working out during your evening show. The above referenced furniture sliders are great for slider workouts. Start simple, put on some gym shoes and slide your legs in and out. Then you can do a sliding lunge. Commercial breaks are a few minutes in length so three exercises for 45 seconds each are good.
This is easy, cheap and good for you. You can Google commercial workouts and there are several plans to try. Find one that works for you.
Today’s challenge allows you to make some choices. The bottom line is that this is a writing challenge. You can ‘write’ on paper, in a notebook or on your computer. You can write a list, poem, story or novel. You can journal privately or write on your FaceBook wall. The challenge is in taking the time to write it down.
As I researched today’s topic I discovered that there are a million ideas and all of them are good…and different. I have this challenge in the bag. I blog every day…right? Not true…on weekends or during downtime I will write a couple of days worth of posts so I need to complete the challenge also.
Here are some hacks to get you started:
- Write a novel
- Start with a prompt
- Write a good old fashioned letter
- Send an email to a friend
- Leave a note for your family members
Again…not me…no one wants to see a picture of me planking. Today’s challenge is to pick a plank calendar and work up your plank for 30 days. Planking is not hard [no seriously] you work up to it and it isn’t hard. Planking also has serious benefits to your core and muscles…and you can do it while you watch TV with no special equipment and you don’t need to get our of your PJs. You can also plank as a family…really I swear kids can do it too…even the littles!
Here are a couple of plans to save on your phone or computer, set a timer or alarm for the same time every day and just start!
Benefits of Planking!
Enjoy…you got this!…Nancy Ann
I am fairly certain that a majority of us have hit a wall with our New Years Resolutions. I do not make resolutions for the New Year, instead, I try to bite off small chunks of success every once in a while. For me, it is better to set a small goal and meet it and then find another small goal. If any of you have surfed the internet, at all, in the past few years you have come across more than a few 30 day challenges.
This week I will be putting up six challenges, these will not be for everyone, try one or two you think fit your personality or share with the person it reminds you of. For example, if you LOVE to work out and have a defeated friend find a 30 day challenge to do with her/him. If I wind up being super motivated I may post more than one per day.
Sundays are my day to motivate you to better yourself. Changing, quitting, starting or stopping a habit can better yourself. Just try. Here are some of my favorite motivational statements to get you started. I Google the ones I love and print out the graphics to post in my office or save on my phone. In most of these cases I have no idea who to credit…rest assured I do not take credit for any of these.
- I can.
- Don’t worry about those that talk behind your back. They are behind you for a reason.
- You don’t have to be Great to Start but you have to Start to be Great.
- Mistakes are proof that you are trying.
- Always Be Positive!
- Do something today that your future self will be proud of.
- Dreams don’t work unless you do.
- There is no elevator to success…you MUST take the stairs.
- I’m gunna run til’ I don’t jiggle.
- When nothing is going right…go left.
Go out there and crush it…Enjoy…Nancy Ann
